Post-Doctoral Position in Protein NMR

University of Nebraska Medical Center, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

We are looking for a post-doctoral fellow with a strong interest in NMR-based characterization of protein structure, protein-ligand and protein-protein interactions. The ideal candidate will be innovative, motivated, and enthusiastic. Background training in NMR spectroscopy, protein structural biology, and/or biophysics is highly desirable.

The laboratory focuses on characterizing the role of intra- and inter-molecular interactions in defining the structure and function of gap junction proteins and proteins involved in endocytic transport (Web link: http://www.unmc.edu/dept/biochemistry/index.cfm?L1_ID=13&CONREF=18). These projects also represent an opportunity for an NMR expert who wants to expand her/his scientific horizon to obtain advanced training in biophysical characterization of proteins outside of NMR (e.g. surface plasmon resonance, analytical ultracentrifugation, circular dichroism, and the yeast-two hybrid assay). Our NMR facility is equipped with a 500 MHz Varian INOVA NMR spectrometer and a 600 MHz Varian INOVA NMR spectrometer outfitted with a cryo-probe. The lab and department have recently moved to the new, state-of-the-art, Durham Research Center, which will provide a stimulating and friendly environment to work.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center is a highly respected research institution located in Omaha, Nebraska.  The medical center was ranked among the top 10 "Best Places to Work for Postdocs" by The Scientist magazine.  The greater Omaha region has about 750,000 residents, and has been consistently rated as one of the top 5 U.S. cities for families (based on available activities, cost of living/housing, safety etc.).  Omaha is expanding rapidly, and there are ample opportunities for cultural and recreational events, including symphony, theatres, art galleries and sporting events.
