City of Hope

The collegial atmosphere at City of Hope provides unique opportunities for translational and basic research, continuing education and professional achievement. We are a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a leader in biomedicine. If you share our passion for discovery, consider the following opportunity within City of Hope’s Beckman Research Institute, one of the nation’s premier biomedical research centers.

There is a postdoctoral position in Dr. Yuan Chen’s lab. The project involves studies of post-translation modifications by ubiquitin-like proteins using multi-disciplinary approaches including NMR methods, biochemical analysis, and molecular and cellular biology methods. We are also developing chemical probes of the various aspects of these modifications using chemical and structural biology approaches, and applying these chemical modulators to investigate the roles of these modifications in cellular and disease processes.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: NMR spectroscopy, computational methods, biochemistry and molecular biology. Recent publications of the laboratory include Oncogene (in press); Molecular Cell. 27(2):228-37, 2007; J Am Chem Soc. 128(41):13474-13478, 2006; Nature Structure and Molecular Biology, 12(1):67 – 74, 2005; Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences 101(40), 14373-14378, 2004. Detailed information about our laboratory can be found on the website: http://www.cityofhope.org/Researchers/ChenYuan/.

Nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, City of Hope is in a serene community in which to live and work. The subtropical and semi-arid climate offers year-round outdoor activity. An hour’s drive in different directions can take you to ocean beaches, snow skiing, or desert camping. It is close enough to take advantage of the benefits of city life, but far enough to enjoy living in a peaceful environment.

*To Apply: *Please submit a statement of research interests and/or experience, a current curriculum vitae, and names and addresses of three references to Dr. Yuan Chen at *ychen@coh.org *EOE/AA
